Kumano
Yunomine Onsen (hot spring)
Yunomine Onsen, which flourished as a place to purify the body and soul during pilgrimages to Kumano, is one of the oldest hot spring in Japan, where pilgrims purified themselves and healed the fatigue of their long journeys. It was discovered around the 4th century by a local Kumano official, Oatonosukune, and later became widely known through the visits of successive emperors to Kumano. “Tsuboyu Onsen" is a natural hot spring whose color is said to change seven times a day on some days and is registered as a World Heritage site as part of the pilgrimage route.
