Shishi-iwa

Shishi-iwa

Shishi-iwa (Lion's Head Rock), located at the northern end of Shichiri-Mihama, is a strange rock with a circumference of about 210 meters and a height of 25 meters. It is designated as a national scenic beauty and as a natural monument. Next to the rock is a human-faced stone called "Shinsen-do," and the two rocks have been likened to a pair of guardian dogs since ancient times. For this reason, there are no guardian dogs in the precincts of Ohmajinja Shrine, which sits nearby, allowing visitors to relive the grand scale of nature worship by our ancestors.
