Kumano
Oyunohara(Former site of Kumano Taisha Grand Shrine)
This is the former site of the Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine, said to be the "Oyunohara" where the gods descended, and which was damaged by a major flood in 1889 and then subsequently moved to its present location. At that time, there were 5 buildings with 12 shrines, a tower gate, a Kaguraden, and a Noh stage, and the area is said to have been about 11,000 tsubo (about 1,000㎡), several times the size of today's area. The 34-meter-high Otorii (Grand Gate), which is the largest in Japan was constructed in 2000 and has become a new tourist attraction.
