Kumano Kodo(Magose-toge Pass)

Kumano Kodo(Magose-toge Pass)

The pass road to "Magose-toge Pass" on the border between Kihokucho and Owase is one of the most popular routes on the "Iseji Route" connecting Ise and Kumano. The 2-kilometer-long stone-paved path through cypress forests was built in the 17th century for pilgrims walking in this rainy region and is one of the most picturesque of the Kumano Kodo routes. The 50-minute walk from the start of the trail to the pass includes many historical sites such as the "Night Crying Jizo", the "Magose Ichirizuka", and a monument to the haiku poet Karyoen Toitsu, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the atmosphere of an old road blending into nature. Wear comfortable walking shoes for a pleasant stroll.
