Sarutahiko Shrine

Sarutahiko Shrine

The main deity, Sarutahiko-Okami, is the god who led Amaterasu's grandson, Ninigi-no-Mikoto, to Takachiho in Miyazaki Prefecture, and from Ise to the rest of the country. For this reason, he has been worshipped as the god of "Michi-Hiraki", who leads all things in the right direction and paves the way for all things. On the grounds of the temple, the Sarume Shrine enshrines Amanouzume-no-mikoto, who is said to have revived Amaterasu-Omikami, who was said to have been trapped in the Ama-no-Iwato (Heavenly Rock Cave) by means of Kagura (a traditional Shinto dance) and is constantly visited by people who wish to improve their skills in the arts, sports, and other fields.
