“Child” refers to children who are 6 to 11 years old at the time when the JAPAN RAIL PASS is used. (Persons who are 12 years and older are deemed to be “adults.”) However, if the child is 11 years old at the time the payment is made when purchasing through the online sales service or when the Exchange Order is issued at the time of purchasing overseas, the child will still be considered 11 years old even if the child is actually 12 years old when using the PASS.
There are three types of Tokaido Shinkansen trains: Nozomi, Hikari, and Kodama.
Nozomi is the most convenient of the three types.
Here are three reasons why you should choose the "Nozomi" train on your memorable trip to Japan!
By using the Nozomi Train, you can arrive at Kyoto and Shin-Osaka the fastest among all trains on the Tokaido Shinkansen, as it has fewer stops.
The Nozomi are operated up to 12 trains per hour! That's why you can hop on board quickly whenever you want.
When going to Kyoto or Hiroshima on the Hikari or Kodama trains, sometimes you may need to change trains at intermediate stations. But with the Nozomi, there is no need to change trains! Let's spend your time calmly on the Nozomi!
*Examples of train transfer between Tokyo and Hiroshima. Not all Nozomi go to Hiroshima.
You can board the Nozomi trains with the Japan Rail Pass by purchasing "[ONLY WITH JAPAN RAIL PASS] NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket" additionally.
It is valid only for those holding the Japan Rail Pass and one ticket is required for each ride on the “Nozomi”.

The New Year's holiday is the long winter vacation period in Japan, when accommodations and transportation, including the Shinkansen are extremely crowded with many travelers. Please be aware of this when planning your trip to Japan.
From December 27th, 2024 to January 5th, 2025, Nozomi trains will be operated with all reserved seats on the Tokaido Sanyo Shinkansen. There will be no non-reserved seats. Thus, when riding the Nozomi train during that period with Japan Rail Pass, please purchase [ONLY WITH JAPAN RAIL PASS] NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket for reserved seat.
*Hikari and Kodama trains (trains except Nozomi) offer both non-reserved seats and reserved seats during that period as usual, but both trains are also expected to be crowded. Seat reservations for Hikari and Kodama trains can be made through “JRP-R”, our official JRP site one month before the journey, so we highly recommend purchasing the pass from JRP-R.
