Stopovers

A “stopover” means temporarily exiting and re-entering a station gate at a location between the departure and destination (within ticket’s section). Stopovers can be made as many times as one desires with basic fare tickets. No backtracking is permitted.
The following tickets cannot be used for stopovers:

Basic fare tickets up to travel distances of 100 kilometers
Basic fare tickets within city and suburban areas
Multi-ride ticket
Some Discounted tickets
Limited express, express, Green Car, sleeper car, reserved seat, numbered, and Home Liner tickets.

Stopovers cannot be done at a station’s same respective zone with tickets that both depart and arrive within specific metropolitan and urban areas. Tickets that depart and arrive within the Yamanote Line are the same.
